Terms of Service

SANE ("School Alerts, Notices & Essentials") is operated by Eric Cheng. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of SANE. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

Service Description

SANE is a tool that helps parents filter, summarize, and forward school-related emails. The service connects to your Gmail account (read-only), uses AI to classify and summarize incoming messages, and optionally forwards actionable emails to addresses you specify.

SANE is currently in alpha. Features, availability, and pricing may change. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time with reasonable notice.

Your Account

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. You agree to provide accurate information when creating your account and to keep it current.

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. SANE is a tool for parents and guardians, not for use by children.

Google API Services

SANE accesses your Gmail account through Google's OAuth 2.0 with the gmail.readonly scope (to read messages) and the userinfo.email scope (to verify your identity). We can only read your messages. We cannot send, delete, or modify emails in your account.

SANE's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

We will not:

  • Transfer or sell Google user data to third parties for advertising, data brokering, or information reselling
  • Use Google user data for serving advertisements of any kind
  • Use Google user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes
  • Transfer Google user data to any party conducting surveillance

Data Use and Privacy

Your data is handled as described in our Privacy Policy. Key points:

  • We use your data only to provide the email filtering and forwarding service
  • We do not sell your data to any third party
  • We do not use your data for advertising
  • We do not provide your data to AI providers for model training
  • Sensitive information (children's details, forwarding addresses, OAuth tokens) is encrypted at rest
  • You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings
  • Data retention periods are described in our Privacy Policy

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use SANE for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the service or its infrastructure
  • Interfere with or disrupt the service for other users
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the service
  • Use automated tools to scrape or collect data from the service
  • Resell or redistribute access to the service without permission

Intellectual Property

SANE and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by Eric Cheng. Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to use the SANE name, logos, or branding.

Content generated by SANE (email summaries, extracted events) is derived from your email content and is provided for your personal use.

Disclaimer of Warranties

SANE is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that:

  • The service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free
  • AI classifications or summaries will be accurate or complete
  • The service will meet your specific requirements

SANE uses AI to classify and summarize emails. AI can make mistakes. You should not rely solely on SANE for time-sensitive or critical communications. Always check your email directly for important matters.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Eric Cheng and SANE shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, opportunities, or profits, arising out of or related to your use of the service.

Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the service is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $50, whichever is greater.

Termination

You may stop using SANE and delete your account at any time from Settings. Account deletion permanently removes all your data.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or if we determine that your use poses a risk to the service or other users. We will provide reasonable notice when possible.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify existing users by email before the changes take effect. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict of law provisions. If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force.

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Eric Cheng regarding your use of SANE.
